PASSENGERS IN ACHILL TO BENEFIT FROM EXTENDED OPERATING HOURS FOR TFI ANSEO

Thursday, 16th October 2025

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today announced extended operating hours for TFI Anseo in Achill, enhancing local transport options and improving connectivity for residents and visitors alike.

From Monday 20th October, the service will operate from 7am until 8pm providing an additional five hours of service each day. These extended hours are designed to better meet the needs of the local community by providing more travel options for greater convenience and accessibility.

The expansive hours also increase connectivity options for onward travel from the Island, linking with Local Link 460a Gob an Choire to Castlebar and Bus Éireann 450 Dooagh – Westport.

The announcement marks a key enhancement in the Smart Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) pilot, which has now completed its first quarter. Since its launch in July, the pilot has seen encouraging passenger numbers, with a notable increase in repeat users, highlighting the importance of the service as a transport link for residents in areas with limited transport options.

This pilot is an innovative initiative under the NTA’s Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, which aims to improve how rural communities access public transport.

Speaking on the announcement, TFI Local Link Mayo General Manager Sarah Togher said: “The extended hours are a direct response to feedback from our passengers and the growing demand for more accessible transport options. We’re delighted to see the community embracing TFI Anseo and look forward to continuing to improve the service to meet the needs of the region.”
